Training Overview

Our continuing value to society will increasingly depend on how well we learn to bridge between differences of all types – while honoring and celebrating diversity. It is an imposing challenge to generate a vision of any cultural change. This training is designed to facilitate communication and empowerment. The focus will be on clarifying the complexities of working across significant differences and on understanding the dynamics of oppression and liberation. The training often results in participants taking on action plans to bring about positive change.

Beyond Inclusion, Beyond Empowerment Certified trainers support you, your organization, or your community to develop a common language and analysis about oppression and liberation while deepening your commitment to social justice. Trainings provide participants with an in depth grasp of social dynamics at the levels of Status (interactional style), Rank (socialization and conditioning), and Power (transcendent), Pamela Hays’s ADDRESSING model and the nine areas of social inequality, including Agent and Target group member roles, and their corresponding developmental processes.

Group Training Workshop Participants will:

  • Explore playful and dynamic interactive activities with approaches to activism, conflict resolution, community building, and anti-oppression.
  • Improve abilities to effect change by playing with relationships to power structures using physical imagery and improvisational exercises.
  • Learn “otherizing” or distancing dynamics common to sexism, racism, ageism, xenophobia, homophobia, classism, and others.
  • Recognize the dynamics of unintentional prejudices and how they affect work in education, health, and human services.
  • Reduce tendencies to think and act in prejudicial ways, and effectively reduce prejudices in various situations.
